“TRUSS BRIDGE MAKING COMPETITION 2K14”
TASK :
Here is a challenge to design a “TRUSS BRIDGE” using popsicle stick (ice-cream sticks) , white glue and nylon ropes according to the stated constraints which can sustain maximum load.
SPECIFICATION FOR TRUSS BRIDGE :
1. Length of truss bridge = 75 – 90 cm
2. Width of truss bridge = 12 – 20 cm
3.Height of truss bridge =above 25 cm
4.Maximum weight of truss should not exceed 2.5 kg.
CONNECTIONS :
1.Connections should be made with stated material only.Any other material used for making connection stronger will result in elimination of team.
2.Neither solid wood other than sticks and synthetic glue (white glue) shall be used for connection.
MATERIAL CONSTRAINTS :
1.Popsicle sticks
2.White glue ( e.g. fevicol)
3. Nylon Ropes (thickness not more than 1.5 mm).
TESTING CONDITION :
1.Dead weight will be measured and recorded.
2.Team member will decide how much weight should be kept initially on the bridge.
3. The weight will be uniformly distributed using plate and hanger arrangement or Direct arrangement(By directly putting weights on truss bridge)
(Note : Team member will decide how much hanger should be kept)
TESTING ROUND :
Round 1 : The bridge will be strictly checked for dimensions as specified above.
Round 2 : Gradual loading will be done.
FAILURE : Any member of structure fails.
JUDGING : It will be based on the structural efficiency.
Structural efficiency will be calculated by foll.equation:
E = Fu/m ,
where Fu = Ultimate load attained in competition,
m = Dead weight of bridge truss as measured in competition.
GENERAL RULES :
1. Structure could be absolutely of any shape satisfying above constraints
2..Judges decision shall be final and binding on all.
